Kota Kinabalu Wetland through its environmental education programmes spreads environmental awareness by continuously educate local people about the importance of wetlands conservation and the traditional wise uses of mangrove such as charcoal production, foods, dyes, medicines and timber (eg. for piling in most saltwater constructions). The site acts as a centre to disseminate such information, knowledge, skill and experience to the local people and provides opportunities for research and studies for higher education level.

Kota Kinabalu Wetland (KKW) provides various Environmental Education Programmes for all ages of groups, from kindergarten children to primary, secondary, college, university students, and adults too.
The Environmental Education Programme includes the KKW Mangrove Experience Programme, Mangrove Conservation Experience Programme, Handcrafting from Mangrove and others.
This programme aims to spread the awareness to the public on the importance of conserving the wetlands.
The participants will get to learn about the wetlands and experience the living treasure.
The Timatch Wetlands Exhibition Hall will house an exhibition area and a children’s laboratory.
The Rotary Nature Activity Centre is an outdoor classroom for nature games & activities.
