Kota Kinabalu Wetlands is also known as an urban wetlands as it is located at the centre of Kota Kinabalu. It took only 5 minutes’ drive away from the city and is very much accessible by car. There are also adequate sign boards for those who are visiting the wetlands for the first time. To get to Kota Kinabalu Wetlands, you can take the Likas bus, taxi or for those who like adventure, you can hike up to the Signal Hill Observatory Tower which is located at Bukit Bendera, Kota Kinabalu, or walk by the seaside, or better yet, have your journey from the Likas Sports Complex.
Within the Kota Kinabalu Wetlands, there will be 1.3 km of boardwalk with 10 small huts for the visitors’ to stop by while enjoying the beautiful scenery. The birds are likely to be seen on the surface of the mud especially during low tide.
At the end of the boardwalk, there’s another 200 m of gravel path (mud trail) which pass through our mangroves nursery, before you finally make your way back to where you begin.
The best time to do bird-watching at Kota Kinabalu Wetlands is in the morning, 8.00 am – 10.00 am, afternoon 4.00 pm – 6.00 pm, or seasonal.
