The first phase of the Invest in the Young and the Future<\/em> project made a significant impact on raising the awareness for wetlands conservation, with the target of 10,000 secondary school students achieved and exceeded. This project was implemented through joint collaboration between HSBC, WWF-Malaysia and Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society (SWCS), and involved a commitment of RM321,000 by HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad (HSBC).<\/p>\n The second phase of this project, an extension of Phase I, was\u00a0carried out from September 2009 to August 2012, with a new commitment by HSBC of RM300,000 to Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Objectives and Aims<\/em><\/p>\n The objective of this project is to further strengthen our future generation\u2019s conviction in conserving wetlands. Through this project, SWCS will develop and implement activities to increase and improve environmental literacy for better environmental stewardships for wetlands conservation. Activities under this project, Invest in the Young and the Future,<\/em> aim at educating trainee teachers as the educators who would promote wetlands awareness among students in schools as well as grooming future leaders among secondary school students for wetlands conservation.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Outline of Project Activities<\/em><\/p>\n This programme consists of environmental leadership courses and field visits for secondary school students, while teacher trainees would participate in environmental education programmes held in Kota Kinabalu Wetland Centre.
