The main objective of this event is to raise public awareness and appreciation of wetlands and public involvement in protecting wetlands. Among the programme to be held in this event are 2KM Walk-N-Plant-A-Thon (walk-a-thon and planting in the mangrove forest), World Wetlands Day launching ceremony, book launching of \u201cA Guide to the Plants of Kota Kinabalu Wetlands\u201d and Mangrove Challenge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabahwetlands.org\/society\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/NOVEMBER-2015.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1985 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sabahwetlands.org\/society\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/NOVEMBER-2015.jpg\" alt=\"NOVEMBER 2015\" width=\"124\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sabahwetlands.org\/society\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/NOVEMBER-2015.jpg 124w, https:\/\/www.sabahwetlands.org\/society\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/NOVEMBER-2015-116x150.jpg 116w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 124px) 100vw, 124px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sabahwetlands.org\/society\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/NOVEMBER-2015-NEWSLETTER.pdf\">November 2015<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">During the Sabah\u2019s Ramsar Conference\u00a0on 12th November 2015 at Magellan Sutera, Kota Kinabalu, SWCS\u00a0represented by Guslia Binti Lahasing, the\u00a0Conservation &amp; Science Officer,\u00a0voice out the\u00a0vision\u00a0of\u00a0making KK Wetlands as\u00a0the second Ramsar site\u00a0in Sabah.\u00a0It is in line with our objectives, &#8216;to promote the conservation of wetlands in Sabah and the variety of plants, birds and other kinds of organisms found in them&#8217;, and &#8216;to raise public awareness and appreciation of wetlands and public involvement in protecting wetlands&#8217;. We celebrated Minggu Alam Sekitar Malaysia (MASM) 2015 in\u00a0collaboration with Department of Environment Sabah (DOE), Environment Protection Department (EPD) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA-SDBEC). There were open exhibitions, competitions for primary and secondary school students, stalls and most importantly, it was an Open Day of KK Wetlands! With the theme \u201cOur Place. Our Planet. Our Responsibility\u201d, we got together as a team to clean our parking lots, collect rubbish from the rubbish traps and clean the compound. We now pledge to do this bimonthly. This year, we celebrated\u00a0<em>Hari Raya<\/em>\u00a0with members of our management committee and staff and interns of KK Wetlands. Speaking of interns, this month, five students from UMS joined us for 12 weeks of industrial training. The week after, in conjunction with the same celebration, we held another mangrove conservation activity with Miss Earth Sabah 2015. It was such a great success that we managed to plant a total of 2,378 trees which exceeded the 2,200 targeted trees. Special thanks and appreciation goes to Bank Islam and everyone that was involved in this project for helping us out in the conservation of mangrove trees. Also in April, we made courtesy calls to members of our Ex-Officio to foster better relationships. On 14<sup>th<\/sup> March, we held the 10<sup>th<\/sup> Annual General Meeting among committee and members of SWCS. The 10<sup>th<\/sup> AGM witnessed new election of Office Bearers of SWCS. This year celebration focused on the theme that RAMSAR Convention has selected: Wetlands for Our Future.
