The end of the year becomes meaningful for the environmental enthusiasts because Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society has started to organize one of the most important events; World Wetlands Day 2016. The main objective of this event is to raise public awareness and appreciation of wetlands and public involvement in protecting wetlands. Among the programme to be held in this event are 2KM Walk-N-Plant-A-Thon (walk-a-thon and planting in the mangrove forest), World Wetlands Day launching ceremony, book launching of \u201cA Guide to the Plants of Kota Kinabalu Wetlands\u201d and Mangrove Challenge.<\/p>\n

\"NOVEMBER<\/a>November 2015<\/a><\/p>\n

During the Sabah\u2019s Ramsar Conference\u00a0on 12th November 2015 at Magellan Sutera, Kota Kinabalu, SWCS\u00a0represented by Guslia Binti Lahasing, the\u00a0Conservation & Science Officer,\u00a0voice out the\u00a0vision\u00a0of\u00a0making KK Wetlands as\u00a0the second Ramsar site\u00a0in Sabah.\u00a0It is in line with our objectives, ‘to promote the conservation of wetlands in Sabah and the variety of plants, birds and other kinds of organisms found in them’, and ‘to raise public awareness and appreciation of wetlands and public involvement in protecting wetlands’. \"OCTOBER<\/a>October 2015<\/a><\/p>\n

October has been a very happening month for us! We celebrated Minggu Alam Sekitar Malaysia (MASM) 2015 in\u00a0collaboration with Department of Environment Sabah (DOE), Environment Protection Department (EPD) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA-SDBEC). There were open exhibitions, competitions for primary and secondary school students, stalls and most importantly, it was an Open Day of KK Wetlands! We welcome the public to join us in the next upcoming event!<\/p>\n

\"SEPT<\/a>September 2015<\/a><\/p>\n

On 19th September 2015, Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society joined the campaign of \u2018Clean Up the World\u2019 to improve the environment in Kota Kinabalu Wetlands. With the theme \u201cOur Place. Our Planet. Our Responsibility\u201d, we got together as a team to clean our parking lots, collect rubbish from the rubbish traps and clean the compound. We now pledge to do this bimonthly. Those who are interested to become volunteers at KK Wetlands are welcomed to join us!<\/p>\n

\"Newsletter<\/a><\/span>August 2015<\/a><\/p>\n

August has been a very interesting month for Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society. In continuation of our Ramsar site networking trip to Kuching Wetlands National Park in January 2015, we had an incredible opportunity to visit three more conservation and educational center in Peninsula Malaysia; Kuala Selangor Nature Park in Selangor, Tasek Bera Ramsar Site in Pahang and EcoCare Environmental Education Centre in Terrenganu.<\/p>\n

\"July<\/a>July 2015<\/a><\/p>\n

Marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan is the festival of Eid, also known as\u00a0Hari Raya Aidilfitri<\/em>. This year, we celebrated\u00a0Hari Raya<\/em>\u00a0with members of our management committee and staff and interns of KK Wetlands. Speaking of interns, this month, five students from UMS joined us for 12 weeks of industrial training. We also welcomed a new volunteer from JICA.<\/p>\n

\"June<\/a>June 2015<\/a><\/p>\n

On June 20th<\/sup>, we celebrated World Environment Day with the Harvest Festival Queen\u00a0(Unduk Ngadau)<\/em>\u00a0Sabah 2015 finalists, together with students from secondary schools around Kota Kinabalu to plant mangroves in KK Wetlands. The week after, in conjunction with the same celebration, we held another mangrove conservation activity with Miss Earth Sabah 2015. The slogans brought by these two beauty icons are \u201cTrees for Future\u201d and \u201cSeeds of Tomorrow\u201d, respectively.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"MAY<\/a>May 2015<\/a><\/p>\n

Tree planting by 59 students from the Faculty of Science and Natural Resources, UMS held on 16th<\/sup> May 2015 marked the end of \u201cMangrove-Our-Priceless Treasure\u201d project, which is sponsored by Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad. It was such a great success that we managed to plant a total of 2,378 trees which exceeded the 2,200 targeted trees. Special thanks and appreciation goes to Bank Islam and everyone that was involved in this project for helping us out in the conservation of mangrove trees. Well done guys!<\/p>\n

\"APRIL<\/a>April 2015<\/a><\/p>\n

Thanks to the generous contribution from Bank Islam for our project \u201cMangroves-Our Priceless Treasure\u201d, we managed to plant a total of 1,678 mangrove trees within a year! \u00a0Read more about our Mangrove Conservation Programme in our April\u2019s Newsletter to find out how we manage this project. Also in April, we made courtesy calls to members of our Ex-Officio to foster better relationships. This is to ensure continuity of sustainable management of SWCS towards conservation of wetlands in Sabah.<\/p>\n

\"MARCH<\/a>March 2015<\/a><\/p>\n

There\u2019s a lot happening in March 2015. On 14th<\/sup> March, we held the 10th<\/sup> Annual General Meeting among committee and members of SWCS. The 10th<\/sup> AGM witnessed new election of Office Bearers of SWCS. On the 23rd<\/sup> to 25th<\/sup>, SWCS was invited to participate in Sabah State Level World Water Day Conference and Exhibition 2015, with Ms Guslia Lahasing as the representative of SWCS and speaker for her paper entitled \u201cThe Importance of Wetlands in Sustainable Water Management\u201d.<\/p>\n

\"FEBRUARY<\/a>February 2015<\/a><\/p>\n

It\u2019s World Wetlands Day 2015! This year celebration focused on the theme that RAMSAR Convention has selected: Wetlands for Our Future. In conjunction to WWD 2015, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun contributes RM50,000 fund allocation to SWCS to support the conservation and educational programmes in KK Wetlands.<\/p>\n

\"JANUARY<\/a>January 2015<\/a><\/p>\n

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015! For this year\u2019s New Year celebration, SWCS has advocated a New Year 2015 Sunset Cruise Gathering.
